Try to get links at sites where content is generated by users like Wikipedia, Wikitravel etc.

Many of the sites you mention are collaborative efforts by communities of users working towards a common goal. You may want to mention that many user-driven sites have policies and guidelines about external links. These sites also maintain and share blacklists of urls that are automatically blocked or deleted from submissions. Instead of trying to “drag” users to your sites, you should look for ways to collaborate that are mutually beneficial– submit links to sites that make sense. The best way to get users to your site will always be to have a site worth visiting!
